Landscaping and Manscaping

Deutsch: Frau bei der Intimrasur mit einem Nas...You can file this one under Sexual Education and Grooming! I'm talking about pubic hair, the hair down there that can be the subject of many 'romantic' conversations. Women have it and men have it, but women are put on blast about it constantly. And men need to take more time maintaining their nether region. So, I decided to write a little article on keeping the hedges trimmed.

Pubic Hair
Bush
Hedges
Peach Fuzz
Muff
Carpet

There are many names, just for the hair down there. It is such a common thing that it is necessary to give it many names, so that you can fit it into conversation better. It is a common belief that the purpose of pubic hair is to keep women from getting any "stuff" into their vagina and keep a guys sperm warm.

So what's all the fuss about? Well, in ye olden days people didn't have the hygiene skills to shave their monstrous muffs. "You know what's under my petticoat?" Today, men and women alike are getting sick of those little obnoxious hairs and are insisting they be shaved away.

To bare or not to bare is the question? Do we keep our vaginas shaved in submission to masculine pressure or can we grow our bush and be proud? To maintain an equilibrium, I vote to enjoy any combination of both.

At times, shaving can be annoying. From razor burn to cutting that tender skin, is it really worth it? To enjoy a variety of "hair cuts" is to be as flexible as possible. No one should be judging, or taking score. A given amount of hygiene is expected, and a fair trim is necessary! But let's just be fare, and be free to bare!

Yea, I went there and yea, you should think about it!!

Red Bull Gives You Wings

I've loved Red Bull energy drinks since they hit the shelves in 2006. For me the drink is a perfect combination of energy and taste. Most people consider it an acquired taste, I fell in love from the first sip. The can design is modern and sleek. The resulting energy is equivalent to a strong cup of coffee. While some people may experience side effects, Red Bull gives me the pep I need to wake up and be productive with my day.

"Red Bull gives you wings." The slogan is stuck in our brains and so far the company has proven to live up to their motto. The Red Bull company sponsors some of the most adventurous and extreme sporting events on the planet.  They own athletic teams including the New York Red Bulls, a soccer team that competes in Major League Soccer. Some of their events are home to many super stars from extreme sports. Recognizable athletes to sign up for Red Bull events includes Travis Pastrana, Sean White and Mark Webber.

Not only does Red Bull invest in extreme sports, they also have some of the coolest celebrity endorsers. Eminem has signed on with Red Bull to produce commercials, make appearances and don the apparel. Travis Barker has been a sponsor of Red Bull for a few years, even making appearances on the cover of Red Bull magazine (The Red Bulletin).

The message Red Bull is sending to it's majority male audience is to get out and experience life. These athletic events are encouraging, exciting and inspires consumers to have their own adventure. Red Bull incorporates extreme sports into their business to demonstrate how well the product performs and how well consumers perform because of the product. Red Bull has been shown to improve driving skill by one college researcher. I'm sure others would support this theory.

I would like to see more focus on female consumers. There are many great female athletes that I would love to see partner with Red Bull. Strong, fierce women that could spark a message of female fierceness. Red Bull brand is powerful, the product is powerful, the endorsers should include powerful women. Including more women in their brand would be beneficial to everyone.

Free Love in Modern Society

Free love is beautiful. It's natural and wonderful to be intimate with others. Emotionally and physically. Love is a feeling that only the luckiest get to understand. It is complicated and multifaceted  There are different types of love all of which are glorious in their own right. You can love a friend, a parent, a pet, and especially a significant other.

Free love has gotten a bad rap in the past few decades. The idea is that men and women are over sexed and are sleeping with everything possible. Gross and perverted ideas of free love and being propagated left and right from anti-peace organizations. These ideas are singular and misguided. Of course there are people that want to experience ultimately, unlimited sexuality. They take their sexual destiny into their own hands and embrace it fully. These ideals may seem extreme, but there is beauty in sexuality and power in sexual freedom.

Yes, I am a Free Lover. I have an inalienable, constitutional and
natural right to love whom I may, to love as long or as short a
period as I can; to change that love every day if I please, and with
that right neither you nor any law you can frame have any right to
interfere."
Victoria Woodhull

The idea of free love is beginning to be redefined. An awakening is happening and we are beginning to open our hearts to the rest of the world. We are accepting and learning to respect the differences in others. Free love is based on the ideals of ultimate acceptance and the desire for oneness with people in our lives. The free love movement isn't about having sex with everyone, but finding the ability to love others with open hearts and open minds.

Sexy Fish Sandwich

It's nothing new to see sexuality used to sell products. It's also no surprise that Hardees (AKA Carl Jrs) uses over sexualized commercials to sell their sandwiches. From the infamous commercial of Paris Hilton washing a car in a bikini and eating her hamburger to the newest sexy Hardess commercial featuring a bikini clad beach bunny simulating oral sex on a straw.

It's disappointing to say the least. Exposure to overly sexual material leaves little to the imagination. It also makes companies appear overly desperate to sell their worthless product. If the burger was really that good, I wouldn't need a body to tell me so. Seeing too much flesh, at inappropriate times, causes us to lose appreciation for the real deal.

Where do we draw the line? Our society attempts to push the boundaries of every aspect in life, it's important to change and evolve. It is clear that sex sells products, it's cliche. Using sexuality to churn marketing is an attempt to grab your attention at whatever cost. We've seen scantly clad women (and men) used in movies, clothing ads and even car ads. Sexuality touches many aspects of American culture. One place I thought it could be avoided was in the fast food chains.

It's not very surprising that a fast food chain would hop on the bandwagon. You expect to see kid friendly places like McDonald's avoid such antics. However, Hardees leans more toward the adult demographic. Their commercials have always been racy and it's hard to find one that doesn't make your stomach turn. (Check out this article.)

I would love to see sexuality banned from commercials. I love racy, dirty movies and support adult decisions to consume such media. However, I believe these commercials are desensitizing our children and a population as a whole. It is unnecessary to show a woman bent over in a bikini sucking on a straw and making moaning sounds. Especially during the middle of the day when most families are at home trying to enjoy a good sitcom. It also seems shallow and dumb to buy into such marketing strategies. If you like the burger (or product) then by all means enjoy. But don't be naive to think that just because a company is trying to get your attention with such disrespectful tactics that their product is going to be worth your money or attention. Vote with your wallet.

Don't want to give Hardees any attention but I'll let the evidence speak for itself.

Sexy Halloween | Taking Back Our Dignity

Male Vs. Female Costumes
Every year, on the last day of October, ghosts and goblins come out to spook the living. It's also typical to see sexy bunnies, bumblebees and other miscellaneous mini skirt costumes. I've always believed that a person should wear what they are comfortable in, as long as it does not upset their morals and the natural flow of things. Wearing skimpy outfits on Halloween is a cry for sexual attention. Everyone is deserving attention. We are all worthy of expressing ourselves and being noticed. But what kind of attention are we looking for and why do we think we need to be noticed sexually?

When picking out a costume, the options are limited for women. Men have multiple costumes that aren't as sexually explicit. When a woman, who does not desire to be nearly naked, is looking for a costume her selection is diminished to outfits with the word "Sexy" in the title. Sexy Nemo, Sexy Batman and Sexy Kitty. Why can't women find costumes that don't make them appear to be desperate for sexual attention? Also, our young girls costumes are also growing sexier as the times change. The shorts are getting shorter and skin is popping through many different holes. This is not the way our children should dress and it is not a good example to be setting for our children.

This world has always been male dominated. And men want nothing more than to see tail on Halloween. If you choose to wear a sexy costume on Halloween, you are only giving in to the male desire. Some arguments can be made that NOT wearing a sexy costume is the same as giving up your rights because of male opinion. It's understandable to feel that way. But in reality, women who wear skimpy costumes ARE looking for the wrong kind of attention. They are looking for approval from males and the approval of other females that are looking for the same male approval.

There has to be a line drawn, however, so that we do not participate in slut shaming. Obviously, we are supportive of sexuality and sex. But it is important to realize that retailers and manufacturers are the guilty parties and that women are only acting on what they think they are "supposed" to do. While I do not aim to shame anyone for their sexuality, it is still important to have sexual dignity. Know your limits and don't wear something just because it's the only option on the shelf. We should not feel pressured to wear sexual outfits to satisfy sexual, male fantasies.

Halloween is about letting your hair down and expressing yourself in some creative way. Wearing the same Sexy Kitty costume as 15 other women is NOT creative. When did a scary kids holiday turn into a day of sexuality? Use your common since on Halloween, girls. If you wouldn't let your bits hang out on a regular day, don't demean yourself by doing it on Halloween. Use your imagination to come up with an amazing costume that still allows you keep you dignity in tact.

This Video Says It All

*As always, this is my opinion and I don't suspect everyone will agree.

Attachment Parenting - It's Not Right For Everyone

Attachment parenting is all the rage for today's hip mommies. The concept seems sweet enough. Parents wearing their babies in harnesses and co-sleeping are the top two applications. There are a number of techniques applied in attachment parenting that are criticized for their bad track record. Specifically, the idea that co-sleeping greatly increases the risk of S.I.D.S. and "roll over" deaths.

Ideally, the concept of attachment parenting allows children and parents more time to bond and increases the "closeness" of the family. You can define "closeness" however you wish, I define it as a feeling of inseparability. Often times I wonder why some families choose to take it to such extremes. Many APs were raised in an AP environment as children themselves. It's what they know and what they saw modeled for them. This is a small percentage of APs.

Most new APs are coming to the movement with no prior experience. They are learning of AP through social media, the internet, news and watching their friends pick up a few AP traits. They are falling into a "monkey see monkey do" pattern, a trend of new movements and social media input. Probably, without actually conducting research on the pros and importantly, the cons associated with AP. This is not claiming that AP is a new concept. It should be understood that AP is an ancient concept and has been practiced all around the world.

So what is this Attachment Parenting all about? There are different ways of implementing AP into a family, but there are also a number of common methods.

Breastfeeding

I'm NOT Mom Enough
Breastfeeding is a wonderful experience for both parties involved! It can also be a nightmare for many mommies. Different complications arise making it difficult to enjoy the experience. An AP mother might consider breastfeeding as one of the most important/necessary aspects of raising a child. Bottle feeding poses it's own problems, specifically the lack of "proper" nutrition and "closeness". AP parents decree that breastfeeding is the most appropriate way of feeding a small child.

I must mention the length of time and the age at which stopping breastfeeding should be considered. We've all seen the Times magazine cover of the breastfeeding mom. What is an appropriate age to quit breastfeeding? Many APs would say that breastfeeding is beneficial to children as old as 8. Realistically, a child would stop breastfeeding well before turning 5. Parents that do not practice AP are likely to stop breastfeeding at 2 years, possibly extending to 3 years.

Baby Wearing

A wonderful concept with a chance to accessorize. There are many different styles of baby carriers. Backpacks, slings and front loaders, babies (and moms) have many options for how to travel together. Baby wearing is something I can support. It's often very convenient, small children can easily be kept an eye on when they are literally clinging to you. When it comes to "closeness", baby wearing is about as close as you can get.

Different Styles

Occasionally, especially as the baby grows into a larger child, many moms can't take the weight of baby wearing. Either medical conditions, or growing aches force moms to put baby down, often before the baby is ready. One problem I see with baby wearing, and see in other AP subjects, is that these routines become hard for both parties to break. In this situation, if a mom has to retire her carrier, the child could have a hard time adapting. Something to consider when starting any parenting practice.

Co-Sleeping/Bed Sharing

Co-Sleeping and Bed Sharing definitely come with some issues. A lot of APs believe it is easier to breastfeed while the baby is asleep next to them. There is also a common belief that co-sleeping and family bedding is a more natural way and keeps the family close.

There are three common arguments we hear about bed sharing. The first is that baby will have a hard time transitioning into their own bed later. Understandable. If baby likes sleeping with mom, and this trends into toddler years, it may be hard for a child to understand that they are supposed to move into their own room. Secondly, it is hard to nurture your partnership (have sex) with your spouse. Bedtime between adults should include adult bonding too! If we are too focused on our child, our relationship with our spouse can and will suffer. The third argument is a whopper. As mentioned in the introduction, bed sharing leads to a number of roll over deaths and S.I.D.S. deaths. This doesn't happen very often, but it certainly is not a myth. Parents must be very careful not to suffocate the baby.

There are a few quick tips I have as far as safely sleeping with your baby:
  • Never, ever, ever, ever do this while under the influence of alcohol or sedating drugs.
  • Keep all pillows and fluffy blankets away from baby.
  • The best scenario is if baby can sleep between mom and a bed rail. Not between mom and dad.
  • Don't swaddle baby if he is not in a basket like the one pictured above. Baby will not be able to move to tell you that you are too close.
  • Use a breathing monitor such as a Snuza for extra precaution. I have one of these and love it! It monitors the up and down movement of the chest and alarms if the movement stops.
  • If you are at all nervous about bed sharing, get a cosleeper.

Bottom Line

Beautiful
The bottom line is pretty self explanatory, Attachment Parenting isn't for everyone. It takes commitment and a lot of parents have other priorities. You're not a good or bad parent either way. Literally, this is an extreme form of parenting when taken too seriously. I wouldn't say it's "niche" but it's not the "norm" either. If you choose to adopt some of the techniques of AP, that is wonderful, don't feel pressured into diving completely into open water.

When applied in the right context, AP can be a very enjoyable experiences. Beware, there is a line that can be crossed, that leads to episodic over protective APs. Anyone can take anything too far. Playing with your child, teaching them and interacting with them are of real importance. Wearing your child (physically attached) is only one method of great parenting. Overall, take AP lightly, enjoy it, revel in it, experience your child closely. Don't make it a contest and remember that each child is special, no matter what "method" is used!
